WIT is broadening
their scope and strengthening their efforts in fighting the injustices
that families are facing in the Child Welfare System. That is a three step process: first we
must know and Claim Our Rights; second we must then use that knowledge
to Reclaim Our Children!! Third, we must advocate for policy
changes that are fair to all families, including poor families!!
If you have lost your children to the
Child Welfare System, then we want you to know your rights so that you
can develop a plan to Reclaim your children; If you are in danger of the Child Welfare
System removing your children, then we want you to know your rights so
that you can take the necessary step to prevent that; We want to make sure that poverty is not
being used as a justification to remove our children! Poverty is not
grounds to remove children; poverty should be grounds to change the
unjust laws to ensure that we can take care of our families!
Our Plan
- to train and institute a Posse that will help
parents with basic necessities
- to distribute a "Know
Your Rights" booklet to give to parents involved in the child welfare
system
- to organize families to advocate for policies
that promotes families and equal treatment of low income people in the
child welfare system

to hold monthly meetings to discuss
our rights as parents, what we need to do as parents to properly care
for our children, and what we can do if our children have been removed,
and to support each other as we walk through the terrifying process
with the Child Welfare System
